Security footage from a supermarket in Puebla, Mexico, shows the dramatic moment a young girl ran into a busy street and was saved by store manager Luis Cruz. The incident occurred on September 6, 2026, outside the El Rey del Ahorro supermarket.
The video shows the toddler running full speed into the roadway as vehicles approached. Bystanders watched in horror as a silver minivan neared the child.
In a split second, Cruz, who was using a pallet jack nearby, sprinted into the street and scooped up the girl just before the minivan would have struck her. He then returned the child to individuals who appeared to be her parents.
After ensuring the girl was safe, Cruz was seen limping slightly as he returned to his work. The supermarket later recognized Cruz for his quick thinking and heroic actions. In an Instagram post, the company named him Manager of the Year and awarded him a 20,000 peso reward, equivalent to approximately $1,184.
The supermarket praised Cruz, stating that his actions demonstrated he was more than just in the right place at the right time, but was attentive and reactive. "Because today, you didn’t just save a result, a sale, or an operation. Today, you saved a life," the translated post read. The company acknowledged that no award could fully measure the value of the life saved.
