Five people have died in northern China due to heavy rains, and a tropical storm has toppled trees and submerged vehicles in the country's southern region, state media reported Sunday.

In the Inner Mongolia region, two villagers died Saturday evening in a mountain flash flood. One fatality occurred while herding cattle, and another when a person fell into water while moving a cattle herd. Three additional deaths were reported on the same day in Fushun city, Liaoning province, located southeast of Inner Mongolia. Details regarding these fatalities were not immediately available.

Fushun experienced a severe rainstorm early Saturday, with rainfall reaching up to 32.9 centimeters (13 inches) in some areas. Videos shared online depicted streets inundated with water, prompting the relocation of approximately 3,600 residents to safer locations.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Maysak made landfall in Vietnam's Quang Ninh province on Saturday night with winds of 101 kilometers (63 miles) per hour before moving north into China's Guangxi region on Sunday. The storm had weakened from severe tropical storm to tropical storm strength upon entering the mainland.

In Guangxi's Fangchenggang city, overflowing rivers submerged cars, and rescue teams used inflatable boats to reach stranded individuals. Local residents described the flooding as the most severe in two decades. Maysak also caused damage in Vietnam, uprooting trees and ripping metal roofs off buildings in the town of Mong Cai. Road clearing operations were underway after the winds subsided. The storm had previously brought rain to China's Hainan island last week before crossing the water to make landfall in Vietnam.
