A British woman has died at a campsite in Western France during a severe heatwave that is affecting much of Europe. The elderly woman was staying with her husband at the Baie D'aunis campsite in Tranche-sur-Mer when she became ill.

A campsite employee confirmed to the Daily Mail that the woman died of a heart attack. Four ambulances and two police cars were reportedly seen at the campsite, according to a fellow camper's Facebook post. The Foreign Office has been contacted for comment.

This incident occurred as temperatures in parts of Europe have surpassed 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). Weather agencies have issued warnings that the extreme heat, described as a 'heat dome' affecting western Europe, could endanger lives. On Thursday, an estimated 101 million people were expected to experience high temperatures, with 50 million of those in France.

Separately, on Thursday, a three-year-old child was found dead inside a car in France, amidst the ongoing heatwave.
