Greek police are nearing the identification of individuals connected to the death of Elisabeth-Jane Ross, a woman whose body was discovered in a suitcase. Authorities are expediting toxicology tests to determine the cause of death, though it remains unconfirmed whether the case will be treated as a homicide.

Ross had been staying with friends in the Keratsini area, west of central Athens. She had informed them of plans to visit acquaintances in Kypseli on July 15. Police are actively seeking to identify these individuals, described as "American friends" or acquaintances.

Ross's mobile phone reportedly transmitted signals and sent messages for a few days after her death. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed it is providing consular support and is in contact with Greek authorities. Police Scotland is also offering support to Ross's family. First Minister John Swinney described the case as "absolutely appalling."
