Giant Python Measuring Over 18 Feet Captured in Puerto Rico
Exotic animal hunter Kevin Pavlidis catches a massive reticulated python after it was reportedly seen killing a pet cat.
A nearly 19-foot-long reticulated python was captured in Puerto Rico by professional exotic animal hunter Kevin Pavlidis, who operates under the social media handle 'Snakeaholic.' The capture occurred after the reptile was allegedly observed consuming a homeowner's cat.
Pavlidis documented the capture in a video posted to his YouTube channel. He described the snake initially fleeing when he and his team arrived at the property. After a search of about 20 minutes, Pavlidis located the python, which he said was bruised. "When I finally found it, all I could see was just the white of its jaw," Pavlidis stated in the video. "I knew right away this is a big, big snake."
As Pavlidis's backup crew arrived, the snake began to react. He noted the python was 'tongue-flicking' and its eyes reflected the crew's bright lights. He managed to secure a "head grab" and, with his team's assistance, captured the tail, enabling them to pull the entire snake free.
In a caption accompanying the video, Pavlidis emphasized the detrimental impact of non-native snakes on Puerto Rico's native wildlife and local residents. He stated that these pythons frequently prey on domestic animals and livestock. "Every single one of these huge snakes that we remove saves the live of native wildlife and domestic animals," he wrote. "Removing this invasive species helps to restore the balance of this delicate ecosystem."
