German Climber Dies After Fall on Nepal's Ama Dablam
A climber fell approximately 1,500 meters while descending the popular Himalayan peak.
A German climber died after falling while descending from the summit of Ama Dablam, a popular mountain in Nepal's Himalayas, an official from the hiking company that provided logistics confirmed on Monday.
The climber, who had successfully reached the 6,814-meter (22,256 ft) summit on Sunday, fell approximately 1,500 meters (4,920 feet) during the descent. Gokul Thapa, head of Real Himalaya Pvt Ltd, stated that the climber died on Monday.
"His body was recovered by a search team today itself," Thapa told Reuters from Lukla, the gateway to the region.
Ama Dablam is situated in the Solukhumbu district, which is also home to Mount Everest, the world's tallest peak. The mountain is a well-known destination for climbers.
Thapa added that the climber's body was transported from the mountain and would be taken by helicopter to a hospital in Kathmandu for a post-mortem examination.
More than 300 mountaineers had obtained permits to climb Ama Dablam during the current September-November autumn climbing season. The incident follows the deaths of two Japanese climbers on another peak in western Nepal the previous week.
