A French national has been charged with murder, rape of a child under 13, and sexual assault of a child under 13 following the death of a two-year-old girl in Surrey. Police were called to a property on Pyrcroft Road in Chertsey on Thursday evening after receiving reports expressing concern for the child's safety.

Kevin Kerjean, 31, was arrested and subsequently charged by Surrey Police. He appeared at Guildford Magistrates' Court on Saturday and has been remanded in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday at Guildford Crown Court.

Authorities confirmed the victim was two years old, correcting an earlier report that stated she was three. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child's death is ongoing, with detectives working to establish a clear picture of events. A significant police presence has been maintained in the Pyrcroft Road area.

Detective Chief Superintendent Jon Groenen stated that the incident is tragic and extended condolences to the child's family and those who knew her. He added that the investigation teams are working diligently to understand what happened.

Surrey Police indicated that they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident. Residents in the vicinity have expressed shock and sadness. Bouquets of flowers have been left near Syward Place, a residential complex on the corner of Pycroft Road and Bell Bridge Road, as a mark of respect for the young child.
