A French boy who sustained life-changing injuries after being thrown 100 feet from a balcony at the Tate Modern in 2019 has left the hospital, his family announced. The child, who was six years old at the time of the attack, has undergone nearly seven years of treatment and rehabilitation.
His parents shared an update on a GoFundMe page, stating, "Our little knight has finally left the hospital!" They noted that the boy was eager to return to school and see his friends, and that his return to class shortly before the summer holidays brought a smile back to his face. The lessons were reportedly tailored to his needs, allowing him to resume learning.
Ongoing Rehabilitation and Recovery
The boy suffered a brain bleed and broken bones after being pushed from the 10th floor of the London museum by Jonty Bravery. Despite the severity of his injuries, he survived the fall. His recovery has included intensive physiotherapy, speech therapy, and neuropsychology.
To celebrate the end of his hospital treatment, his family plans to take him on a tandem paragliding flight and a seaside getaway. He is also set to resume adaptive swimming lessons and receive math tutoring to catch up on missed schooling. His family expressed a desire to "fully recharge his batteries (and our own)" before the school year begins and to re-establish a normal family routine.
The Attacker and Legal Proceedings
Jonty Bravery, who was 17 at the time of the incident, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 15 years in 2020 after pleading guilty to manslaughter. He is currently held at Broadmoor, a high-security psychiatric hospital. Bravery has had previous court appearances for assaults on hospital staff. In September 2024, he was sentenced to 16 weeks for assaulting two nurses at Broadmoor, and in 2020, he received a 14-week sentence for a similar offense at the same facility.
The crowdfunding initiative, set up to cover the injured boy's medical costs, has raised over £500,000. The attack occurred while the boy was on holiday with his family in London.
