Authorities in France have ordered the evacuation of several suburbs west of Bordeaux as a significant wildfire spreads, fueled by dry conditions and shifting winds. The prefect of the Gironde region, which encompasses Bordeaux, issued the evacuation order early Saturday, affecting parts of three western suburbs, including the city's airport. Firefighters are engaged in a substantial effort to contain the blaze, which has been described as massive and dynamic.
A statement from the prefecture indicated that the ongoing spread of the fire necessitated the relocation of residents for their safety, despite considerable resources being deployed by emergency services. France is utilizing a large cargo aircraft to assist in combating the wildfire by dropping flame retardant chemicals over the affected areas, which lie near the city’s famed wine-producing estates.
