France Sees Widespread Protests as Students, Parents Take to Streets

Hundreds of thousands of people have marched across France as a wave of protests initially started by high school students expanded to include parents, university students, and unions. The demonstrations, which saw crowds of teenagers rally in Paris calling for increased resources for schools and what they described as reduced police repression, have spread throughout the country.

In several cities, including Paris, Lyon, and Marseille, police clashed with demonstrators. Riot police used tear gas in Paris and Marseille, and water cannon were deployed in Rennes. Despite these confrontations, the protests were largely marked by a lack of serious incidents that had occurred during previous demonstrations.

The protests highlight growing discontent among students and their families regarding the state of the education system and the conduct of law enforcement during public gatherings.
