Police deployed tear gas and engaged in clashes with demonstrators on the outskirts of Paris during the third consecutive weekend of nationwide protests. The demonstrations, which began against the backdrop of a rising cost of living and inadequate public services, saw over 320,000 people take to the streets across France.
According to the French interior ministry, at least 290 protesters were arrested nationwide. In Paris alone, authorities reported approximately 70,000 participants in the demonstration. Law enforcement agencies had undertaken extensive preparations to prevent a recurrence of the violence, rioting, and looting that marred the protests two weeks prior.
