France Detains 14-Year-Old in School Shooting

Police have detained a 14-year-old pupil suspected in a rare school shooting in France that wounded the principal and another staff member.

The Bouches-du-Rhône police department in southern France stated that the suspect's motive remains unknown. The 14-year-old boy was taken into custody on Monday while in possession of a gun. The staff members sustained injuries from ammunition used in 12-gauge shotguns, according to police.

It is unclear if the shooting is linked to the ongoing protest movement involving high school pupils that has been occurring across France for several weeks. Police confirmed that the shooting took place outside a middle school that had not been affected by the protests on Monday.
