Four people were killed and at least 15 others wounded in a shooting on the outskirts of Jerusalem on Monday, Israeli emergency services said, and police said the perpetrators had been killed at the scene.

The attack took place near a bus stop at the Ramot road junction in Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem on Sept. 8, 2025. Paramedics arriving at the scene found victims lying on the road and sidewalk, some unconscious, and evacuated the wounded to nearby hospitals. The Israeli ambulance service said earlier that at least five of the wounded were in serious condition with gunshot injuries.

Israeli police described the shooters as "terrorists" but did not immediately say how many assailants were involved or provide details about their identities or motivations. Police and rescue teams remained at the scene conducting forensic work and collecting evidence, and authorities said an investigation into the incident was under way.

Rescue teams from Zaka, an Israeli volunteer organization that assists at attack and disaster scenes, were seen carrying a victim from the site, and images from the scene showed a bus windshield riddled with bullet holes. Officials said the perpetrators were killed, but they did not specify whether that followed an exchange of gunfire with police, a shootout with civilians or another sequence of events.

Hospital officials in Jerusalem said they were treating multiple wounded, some with serious gunshot wounds. The Health Ministry and emergency services issued appeals for blood donations following the attack. No group immediately claimed responsibility.

The shooting occurred amid recurring tensions in Jerusalem, where violence has flared periodically in recent years. Authorities emphasized that the probe would focus on determining the attackers' identities, the weapons used and whether the incident was linked to a broader plot or to lone actors.

Security forces increased patrols in the area after the shooting, and checkpoints were set up on nearby roads while investigators canvassed witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage. Police asked anyone with information or footage of the incident to come forward to assist the inquiry.

International governments and organizations had not issued immediate responses to the attack as of Monday evening. Local officials said they would provide updates as more information became available.

Rescue teams at the scene

The shooting is the latest in a series of violent incidents in and around Jerusalem that have prompted heightened security measures. Investigators said they would analyze all available evidence to establish a clear timeline and motive for Monday's attack and to identify anyone else who may have been involved or provided support.
