Four men have been found guilty of murdering a man who was stabbed in the heart while sitting in his car in Thornliebank, East Renfrewshire, in April 2019.

Tony Ferns suffered a stab wound to the heart after he had dropped his girlfriend off outside her home, prosecutors said. He managed to drive a short distance to the house he shared with his mother but later died of his injuries.

Following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow, a jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts against Craig Colquhoun, 39; Raymond Platt, 56; Joseph McCulloch, 50; and Robert Park, 69. The four men were convicted of murder, the Crown Office said.

The attack occurred in April 2019 in Thornliebank, a town in East Renfrewshire to the south-west of Glasgow. Court testimony and evidence examined during the trial established that Ferns was stabbed while in his vehicle; he later drove to his mother's home but could not be saved.

Prosecutors presented their case over the course of the trial at the High Court in Glasgow. The jury's unanimous decision convicts all four defendants of the single count of murder placed before them.

Sentencing arrangements were not announced at the time of the verdict. Under Scottish procedure, a judge will set a date to consider the appropriate sentence following the guilty findings.

The verdict brings to a close a lengthy legal process arising from a fatal attack that sparked local concern when it occurred in 2019. The case will now move into the sentencing phase, where the court will hear further submissions before determining the penalties to be imposed on the convicted men.
