Four Dead in Merseyside House Fire

Four people have died following a house fire in Merseyside early Tuesday morning. The blaze erupted in a semi-detached property in Bootle at approximately 3:38 a.m.

Six fire engines and eight firefighters were dispatched to the scene, responding to reports of an "intense fire which was spreading rapidly." Fire crews, equipped with breathing apparatus, entered the home and discovered four individuals who showed no signs of life. The fire service confirmed later in the day that all four had tragically died.

Another person found outside the residence was transported to a hospital by the North West Ambulance Service. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Merseyside Police have initiated a joint investigation to determine the cause of the fire. A police cordon remains in place around the property, with forensic investigators present.

One neighbor reported being awakened by sirens and seeing smoke billowing from the houses. Another resident mentioned hearing shouting in the early hours, initially mistaking it for an argument, before realizing the extent of the emergency upon seeing the fire engines.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service Area Manager Kevin Longshaw stated, "This is a devastating incident, and our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of those who have lost their lives and been injured." He added that the service would work with colleagues to ascertain the cause of the fire and extended condolences to those affected.

Chief Fire Officer Nick Searle confirmed that the first fire engine arrived at 3:45 a.m. after a 999 call was received at 3:30 a.m. He noted that initial crews found the house significantly involved in fire. "During the course of the search of the property, firefighters discovered four casualties, showing no signs of life, and it's now been confirmed that all four have tragically lost their lives," Searle said. Fire crews are expected to maintain a visible presence in the community.
