Four Dead, Four Wounded in Shooting Near St. Vincent Capital

A shooting in the Green Hill community, near Kingstown, the capital of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, resulted in four fatalities and four injuries Friday night, prompting an extensive police investigation.

Authorities responded to the scene shortly before 10:30 p.m. and discovered two bodies on a public road. A third victim was found deceased inside a nearby vehicle, and a fourth victim was located on an adjacent parcel of land. All four individuals appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds, according to Acting Commissioner of Police Trevor Bailey.

Four other individuals were transported to Milton Cato Memorial Hospital with gunshot injuries. Two of these patients were treated and released, while two remained hospitalized as of Saturday's police briefing.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Brenton Smith stated that investigators are actively working to identify the perpetrators and urged the public against speculation as the investigation progresses.

Police are also examining a separate shooting incident that occurred in Ottley Hall early Saturday morning but have not yet determined if the two events are connected. Smith emphasized that any determination regarding connections must be based on evidence gathered by investigators.

These killings occur amidst ongoing efforts by authorities to address gun and gang violence across the island nation. Smith reported that 37 murders have been recorded in St. Vincent and the Grenadines year-to-date.

Bailey acknowledged past instances of retaliatory violence between rival groups but did not explicitly link the Green Hill shootings to gang activity at the time of the briefing. He stated that the investigation had not reached a stage where such connections could be confirmed.

In response to the violence, authorities have increased patrols, implemented random searches, and initiated intelligence operations in Kingstown and surrounding areas in an effort to recover illegal firearms and prevent further incidents. Local outlet iWitness News reported that the Green Hill attack is one of several mass shootings in recent years in the country.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines is known as a luxury tourism destination, comprising 32 islands and cays popular for sailing, beaches, and secluded getaways. The archipelago includes Mustique, an island frequented by celebrities.

Police are appealing to the public for any information, including photographs, video, surveillance footage, or details about people or vehicles potentially linked to the shootings, to come forward and assist investigators.
