Four Dead, Four Wounded in Shooting Near St. Vincent and the Grenadines Capital
Authorities are seeking suspects and increasing police presence in the wake of the violent incident that occurred Friday night.
A shooting in the Green Hill community near Kingstown, the capital of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, left four people dead and four others wounded Friday night. Acting Commissioner of Police Trevor Bailey reported the incident during a news conference Saturday, stating that officers responding to the scene discovered two bodies on a public road, a woman deceased inside a nearby vehicle, and a fourth victim on adjacent land, all appearing to have sustained gunshot wounds.
Four additional individuals were transported to Milton Cato Memorial Hospital with injuries. Two have since been released, while two remain hospitalized. As of the police briefing, no arrests had been made, and no motive had been publicly disclosed. Assistant Commissioner of Police Brenton Smith urged against speculation, emphasizing that the investigation is active and determinations will be based on evidence.
Police are also investigating a separate shooting that occurred early Saturday in Ottley Hall, but have not yet determined if the two incidents are connected. The violence comes as authorities address rising gun and gang violence across the island nation. Smith noted that 37 murders have been recorded in St. Vincent and the Grenadines this year. While acknowledging instances of retaliatory violence between rival groups, police have not definitively linked the Green Hill killings to gang activity.
In response to the violence, authorities have implemented increased patrols, random searches, and intelligence operations in Kingstown and surrounding areas. Efforts are underway to recover illegal firearms and prevent further incidents. Local outlet iWitness News reported that the Green Hill attack was one of several recent shootings resulting in multiple fatalities, including a July incident in Kingstown that claimed three lives. The outlet identified Friday's four victims based on its own sources, though official confirmation was pending.
