A former Thai Member of Parliament has allegedly shot and killed a local official in Nonthaburi province, later confessing to the incident during a YouTube livestream. The ex-MP, identified as Chalong Reawraeng, reportedly contacted a political pundit, Anchalee Paireerak, on the platform to state that he had shot Thongchai Yenprasert, a former police official and the president of the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organisation.
Thongchai Yenprasert was struck in the neck and died from his injuries at a hospital. His driver sustained a gunshot wound to the arm and hand. Authorities arrested Chalong, who was subsequently permitted to hold a press conference at a police station. During the conference, while smoking a cigarette, he described Yenprasert as a "good friend" and claimed he did not intend to shoot him.
Chalong stated that Yenprasert had been "angry" with him, though he did not elaborate on the reasons. According to local media reports, the two were involved in a personal dispute. Chalong recounted that Yenprasert pushed him when he attempted to speak with him, saying, "I don't want to talk, I don't want to talk."
Chalong then said he followed Yenprasert toward his car. "When I pulled the gun out, I didn't intend to shoot him," Chalong told reporters. "But then [Thongchai's driver] pulled his gun out and pointed it at me, so I fired."
Forensic officers were seen inspecting the scene of the shooting on August 10, 2026, in Nonthaburi province, on the outskirts of Bangkok. The incident has drawn significant attention due to the unusual confession made via a public livestream.
