Flooding in Haiti and Dominican Republic Kills at Least Four

Heavy rains have caused deadly flooding and landslides in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, killing at least four people and cutting off access to dozens of communities, authorities reported Tuesday.

In Haiti's southwestern region, at least four individuals were confirmed dead and two others remain missing. The flooding has impacted over 3,200 families and destroyed hundreds of homes, according to the country's Civil Protection Agency. Landslides have also disrupted several roads in the southwestern part of the nation.

Neighboring the Dominican Republic, the Emergency Operations Center reported that more than 100 homes are flooded and at least 30 communities have been cut off by the persistent rains. Both nations share the island of Hispaniola.

Officials attribute the severe weather to a low-pressure system currently moving through the northern Caribbean.
