Flights at Germany's Leipzig/Halle Airport, a major cargo hub, experienced disruptions overnight due to the sighting of a flying object and the discovery of another near a runway, authorities reported on Wednesday.
Several flights, including one passenger plane, were diverted to other airports after a flying object was observed near the airport shortly before midnight. Police deployed an anti-explosives robot to inspect the second object, which was found near the south runway. Further details about the object were not immediately available.
Operations on one runway resumed shortly before 2 a.m. However, the south runway remained closed Wednesday morning as the investigation continued, according to a police statement.
