Flash Floods Destroy Nepal Bridge, Five Missing
Raging waters washed away a bridge over the Budhi Gandaki River in the Gorkha district, prompting evacuations and rescue efforts.
Flash floods have ravaged parts of Nepal, destroying a bridge over the Budhi Gandaki River in the Gorkha district and leaving at least five people missing. Dramatic video footage captured the moment the surging waters pounded the structure until it collapsed and was swept downstream.
Authorities have initiated rescue operations, plucking more than 80 people from dangerous currents. Six individuals were reportedly rescued from the landslide-prone area of Jagat. Prime Minister Balendra Shah confirmed these efforts in a social media update.
Dharmendra Kumar Mishra, a senior official in the Gorkha district, stated that villagers living downstream along the river banks have been urged to evacuate to safer locations.
This is the second major natural disaster to strike Nepal in recent months. On August 26, an avalanche triggered by a collapsing glacier caused a devastating flood originating from the Himalayas. That event resulted in over 1,400 fatalities, with thousands still unaccounted for.
