Five individuals have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a kidnapping that concluded when the victim escaped by leaping from a first-floor window. The incident occurred in July 2025 when the man was lured to a property in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire, over personal matters stemming from a past relationship. Lincolnshire Police reported that the victim endured repeated assaults, threats, humiliation, and torment over the course of his captivity. His captors filmed the abuse and appeared to find amusement in his suffering.
After being held overnight, the victim was transported to a house in Lincoln. It was there that he was captured on CCTV jumping into a tree, climbing down, and subsequently running into the street to flag down a passing police car. Authorities intercepted two of the kidnappers in a vehicle, while the remaining accomplices were apprehended at the Market Rasen residence.
The sentencings took place at Lincoln Crown Court on August 28.
Brad'Lee Ranyard, 20, received a nine-year sentence after being convicted of kidnap and pleading guilty to false imprisonment. Jackson Nicholson, 25, was also sentenced to nine years for kidnap, false imprisonment, and possessing a bladed object in public. Craig Ranyard, 42, pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and was sentenced to five years and three months. Danielle Thompson, 38, pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and received a four-year and nine-month sentence. Nathan Gladwell, 36, also pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and was given a three-year and seven-month sentence.
Detective Constable Liam Henderson described the ordeal as "a sustained and deeply distressing ordeal in which a man was subjected to violence, threats and humiliation." He commended the victim's "remarkable courage in seizing the opportunity to escape," noting that the CCTV footage captured a desperate moment where the victim "quite literally risked everything to get away from those holding him captive."
