The wreckage of a private Boeing 737 cargo plane has been located off the coast of Pakistan, with five crew members still missing, aviation officials reported. The aircraft was traveling from Karachi, Pakistan, to Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates when it lost contact with air traffic controllers.
The plane, operated by K2 Airways, experienced a rapid descent and communication loss at 21:21 local time on Tuesday, approximately 16:21 GMT. Minutes before losing contact, the flight crew reported a navigation system problem.
Following a 12-hour search operation involving both air and sea assets, the plane's wreckage was discovered 53 nautical miles south of Ormara, a port town situated on the Arabian Sea coast. Ormara is located about 223 miles west of Karachi, the origin of the flight.
Efforts are currently underway by Pakistan's Airports Authority to locate the missing crew members. The last significant aviation incident in Pakistan occurred in 2020, when a domestic passenger flight operated by Pakistan International Airlines crashed while approaching Karachi airport, resulting in the deaths of all but two of the 99 people on board.
