Adolf Hitler's mountain retreat, the Eagle's Nest, was engulfed in flames on Friday night, with police arresting a 33-year-old German man in connection with the incident. The historic site, officially known as the Kehlsteinhaus, is located above the town of Berchtesgaden in the southern German state of Bavaria.
The residence was one of several buildings used by Hitler and his entourage during World War II. The area also served as a backdrop for propaganda films portraying the Nazi dictator as a nature enthusiast.
Local media reported the site was "largely destroyed" by the fire, and authorities urged the public to avoid the area.
