A family from Mansfield is desperately trying to raise £200,000 to bring their critically ill baby son, Matthew, home from Hong Kong. Matthew, who fell ill during a family holiday, requires specialized care that cannot be provided on standard commercial flights.
Lia's Wings, a charity supporting the family, stated that private air ambulances are prohibitively expensive. Charlotte Young, the charity's chief operational officer, explained that they are arranging a private aircraft equipped with a medical team. "We are looking at a private aircraft with a medical team we have on standby," Young said.
Matthew's mother, Sophia, described her situation as "living on earth but in hell," expressing her distress and the uncertainty of being in limbo far from home. "We are just a family who went away on holiday with our healthy little boy, and we desperately want to bring him home," she stated, emphasizing their need to reunite Matthew with his father and ensure he receives ongoing specialist care in the UK.
