The blast occurred in an old, two-story building in Plaka, a popular tourist area at the foot of the Acropolis hill. The impact caused the building to collapse entirely, with neighboring structures also sustaining damage. Video from the scene depicted rubble scattered across the street and damaged parked cars.
Emergency services, including the fire department and police, responded to the incident. Rescue crews were deployed to check for any additional trapped individuals. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, though local reports suggest a gas leak is suspected.
