An explosion and subsequent fire occurred Thursday at an ammunition manufacturing plant in Colleferro, a town located near Rome, according to local authorities. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

The incident took place at the former Simmel Difesa facility, which is now owned by KNDS Ammo Italy and produces ammunition and other defense products. Francesco Rocca, president of the Lazio region, stated that the immediate priority was to ensure the safety of personnel and facilitate the work of emergency responders.

Initial reports from local media indicated that all workers at the plant were accounted for and safe. The blast is believed to have originated in the facility's powder-pressing department. Emergency services, including firefighters and police, were dispatched to the scene as the fire persisted. Residents in the surrounding area reported hearing a significant explosion.
