Disgraced former deputy mayor Salim Mehajer has been charged with domestic violence and larceny-related offenses, including allegations he stole a $41,000 gift intended for his second wedding. Mehajer, 40, was arrested near a cafe in Wentworth Point, western Sydney, on Wednesday afternoon.

He was subsequently charged with domestic violence-related common assault, larceny greater than $15,000, and domestic violence-related stalking or intimidation with the intent to cause fear of physical harm. The larceny charge specifically relates to the alleged theft of jewelry worth $41,000, which was reportedly meant as a gift for his upcoming second wedding.

Mehajer was denied bail and is scheduled to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Thursday. This is not the first time Mehajer has faced legal troubles. He was previously jailed for lying to a court and served consecutive sentences for various offenses, including domestic violence against a former partner.

Mehajer first gained public attention for his elaborate $1 million wedding to Aysha Learmonth in 2015, which featured a helicopter arrival and a large motorcade. The event caused controversy when it led to the closure of a street in Lidcombe, and Mehajer reportedly distributed misleading flyers to neighbors about parking restrictions.

He was released from prison in July 2025 after serving a five-year sentence. During his incarceration, he spent time in Sydney's Silverwater maximum-security prison and Goulburn Supermax.

Since his release, Mehajer has largely maintained a low profile, occasionally posting on social media, attending court appearances, and engaging in errands. He recently announced he is writing a memoir, hinting at revelations about his past associates.
