Closing statements were delivered Tuesday in the Australian trial of British entertainer Yung Filly, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, on charges including rape and choking. The case stems from an alleged incident in a Perth hotel room in September 2024, two years prior.
Barrientos, 30, has pleaded not guilty to six charges of rape, three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, and one count of choking. The accuser, who was 20 at the time of the alleged assault and cannot be legally named, met Barrientos at a Perth nightclub following his performance.
During closing arguments, prosecutor Danielle Clarke described Barrientos as an "entitled man" with "moderate degree of fame" who allegedly subjected the young woman to sexual violence. Clarke stated, "She meant nothing to him," and that consensual sex "quickly escalated into sexual violence and a non-consensual nightmare."
The jury is expected to begin deliberations on Wednesday after defense lawyers conclude their closing statements. The Colombian-born entertainer had been touring Australia, performing in Sydney and Melbourne before the alleged incident in Perth. He was later arrested in Brisbane.
Barrientos testified on Monday that he did not choke or slap the woman, but acknowledged biting her multiple times, referring to them as "love bites." He denied the woman repeatedly asked him to stop and told him he was causing her pain. "There was kissing in between; I would give her a love bite and then kiss her," Barrientos told the court. "I don’t recall any blood."
Photographs showing bruising and bite marks on the accuser's face and neck were presented as evidence in court. Prosecutors previously stated that the woman initially consented to sex with Barrientos but withdrew her consent out of fear for her safety.
Barrientos confirmed that his bodyguard took the accuser's phone before she entered the hotel room, but denied the prosecution's claim that the phone was removed to trap her. He stated that protecting privacy is "standard practice for someone in the limelight."
