Emergency services discovered the body of an 84-year-old woman at an aged care facility in Rooty Hill, Sydney's west, on Thursday night. Police were called to the Evans Road facility around 11:45 p.m. and found the elderly woman deceased inside one of the buildings.
A 53-year-old woman, who is believed to have been known to the deceased, was apprehended at the scene. She was subsequently transported to Mount Druitt Hospital for an assessment.

Authorities have established a crime scene, and detectives have launched an investigation into the incident. A report will be prepared for the coroner. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
