A man wielding knives strapped to both hands stabbed at least eight people at a shopping mall in Incheon, South Korea, on Tuesday, according to police and fire officials.
The 59-year-old suspect was apprehended by bystanders before police arrived at the scene. It remains unclear what motivated the attack.
The injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals. One woman in her 20s underwent surgery after arriving in cardiac arrest, officials reported. The severity of the other injuries was not immediately disclosed.
A witness told South Korea's Yonhap news agency that the suspect began his assault in a discount store on the mall's basement level. The witness described the man continuing his attack as he ascended an escalator before bystanders intervened and subdued him.
