Two women narrowly escaped a terrifying broad daylight attack in a Melbourne park on July 15, 2026, when their six dogs intervened and chased the alleged predator away. The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. at Righetti Oval along Gardiners Creek.

One of the dog walkers told Sky News that she and her friend first noticed the man lurking in bushes. "That's when he lunged for my friend and grabbed a hold of her neck and upper shoulders," she recounted. The man then reportedly approached the other woman, threatening her and demanding she enter a tunnel.

As the situation escalated, the women's dogs sprang into action. The six dogs, of various breeds and sizes, barked furiously and pursued the alleged attacker. Footage captured by one of the women shows a blue heeler leaping up and latching onto the man's leg, tearing his pants.

The man was heard yelling at the dogs before he fled into a tunnel beneath the Monash Freeway. Despite a significant police response involving the Air Wing, ground officers, and the Dog Squad, the suspect remains at large.

Despite the harrowing experience, one of the victims stated that the encounter would not deter her from returning to the park. "I'm just going to have to be a little bit more cautious. I mean, I always have been anyway. As a female, you always have to be alert," she said. "I'm not going to let it stop me from coming to the park that I enjoy so much and the dogs enjoy."
