The Diana Memorial Fountain in London's Hyde Park has remained dry throughout the summer due to a series of technical issues, Royal Parks, the charity responsible for the park's maintenance, announced. The closure has disappointed visitors, particularly during a period of prolonged high temperatures.
The popular water feature, opened in 2004 in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, was first affected by a mechanical breakdown in its water pump. Although the pump was repaired, a subsequent failure in the system's software prevented the restoration of the water supply. This dual technical challenge led to the fountain being kept dry for an extended period.
Royal Parks publicly announced the closure on July 1 and acknowledged that the fountain had been out of operation for longer than anticipated while specialist teams worked to resolve the software problem. The charity extended its apologies to park visitors for the inconvenience caused by the fountain's continuous closure during the summer months.
