Liechtenstein's government reported that a cyberattack has compromised the nation's register of economic beneficiaries, exposing the data of around 31,000 individuals. The breach occurred between Wednesday night and Thursday of last week, with the government detecting the intrusion on Thursday. Measures were immediately implemented to secure the remaining data and take the affected system offline.

Authorities stated there is currently no indication that any of the accessed information was altered or deleted. The register, which lists the individuals behind companies, foundations, and trusteeships, is a crucial component of efforts to combat money laundering and terror financing.

Liechtenstein, a principality with a population of 40,000 situated between Switzerland and Austria, relies heavily on its financial industry. In response to the incident, the government established a crisis unit over the weekend to thoroughly investigate the cyberattack.
