A crew member aboard the Celebrity Constellation cruise ship was found dead in her cabin on Sunday morning, with authorities treating the death as a suspected suicide. The 33-year-old Mauritian national was discovered by her partner, who is also a co-worker on the ship, when the vessel docked in La Spezia, Italy.
Following the discovery, ship officers were alerted, and forensic officers were called to the scene. They photographed the cabin before a coroner confirmed the crew member's death. Authorities have interviewed the woman's partner and reviewed security footage from her cabin leading up to her death. Initial findings at the scene suggest the crew member died by suicide, according to Italian outlet Il Secolo XIX. The investigation is ongoing, with officials noting that she reportedly was not suffering from depression.
No arrests have been made as the investigation continues. The Celebrity Constellation, part of the Celebrity Cruises line, has a capacity for 2,170 passengers and 1,000 crew members. The ship departed La Spezia at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday and is currently three days into an 11-night Eastern Mediterranean cruise.
