Cow Airlifted to Safety After Getting Stuck in French Mountain Mud

A cow stranded in mud on a French mountain was rescued by helicopter, an event captured in wild video footage. The cow, identified as Vahine, became stuck in the mud on September 11 while grazing in the Pyrenees. The steep terrain prevented rescuers from reaching her by vehicle, necessitating an aerial operation.

Rescuers used a helicopter to lift Vahine to safety using a sling. Onlookers expressed surprise and curiosity about the rescue. "We were very surprised, quite impressed, and above all, we had a lot of questions about how the cow was feeling, why they were transporting her that way, and whether she enjoyed the sensation of flying," witness Olympe Provest told Storyful. She later learned the cow was too weak to free herself from the mud.

This incident echoes a similar event in 2021 when injured cows in the Swiss Alps were also airlifted to safety by helicopter.
