A couple in the UK discovered stacks of cash from the 1970s hidden inside a paint can while renovating their pre-1900s home. The find, totaling more than £1,000 (approximately $1,336 USD), was documented in a viral TikTok video.

Luisa and her husband, Dan, noticed a bricked-up section beneath the stairs leading to their cellar. After months of deliberation due to a strong ammonia smell, they decided to open a rusted paint can found within the wall. To their surprise, the can contained bundles of old British currency.

"None of us were expecting money inside," Luisa told Newsweek. "It was such a fantastic memory for the kids, they will remember it forever." She added that the unexpected money helped alleviate financial stress, allowing them to pay bills and treat their children.

Currencies featuring the Queen's effigy can typically be exchanged at banks. However, older or rare notes can also fetch more than their face value on collector markets.

This is not the first instance of homeowners uncovering hidden treasures. In a separate viral video, a woman found a vintage wedding dress carefully stored in a box within the attic of her newly purchased home. She expressed interest in repurposing the dress for her own wedding day.
