Search crews have concluded land operations following a landslide in southwestern China earlier this month, with the confirmed death toll now at 51, local authorities announced Thursday. Ten people remain unaccounted for.
The incident occurred on July 17, when falling rocks and soil impacted 10 residential buildings and a minibus in Pengshui County, near the city of Chongqing. At least 10 individuals sustained injuries, and three have since been released from the hospital.
Over 1,100 residents were evacuated from the affected area. Authorities have deployed divers and underwater robots to continue search efforts in the Wujiang River, where dredging operations are ongoing. Traffic in the area is expected to resume shortly.
