Bus Overturns in Central Iran, Killing 11 and Injuring 24

A passenger bus overturned on the Saveh-Hamedan freeway in Iran's central Markazi province, resulting in 11 fatalities and 24 injuries, according to state television.

Provincial traffic police identified driver fatigue and drowsiness as the cause of the Saturday accident. The destination of the bus was not immediately disclosed.

Iran faces a high rate of traffic accidents, with over 17,000 deaths annually. Contributing factors frequently cited include unsafe vehicles, widespread disregard for traffic laws, and insufficient emergency services.

This incident follows a crash earlier in September near the western city of Sanandaj, where a fuel tanker collided with other vehicles and exploded, killing 11 people and injuring seven others.
