At least 25 people died in a passenger bus accident on the island of Fogo in Cape Verde, according to local media and officials.

The crash occurred Saturday on the Campanas de Cima route, a mountainous area.

The president of Cape Verde, José Maria Pereira Neves, described the incident as "a great catastrophe" in a statement released on Facebook.
