A 62-year-old British cruise passenger was found dead in her cabin while the ship was docked in Santorini, Greece, on Sunday morning. Staff discovered the woman's body when they entered her room.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and the passenger was transported from the cruise ship to the port of Athinios. She was then taken to a local hospital, where she was officially pronounced dead. Local authorities have launched an investigation into the death and have ordered an autopsy to determine the cause.
Police currently do not suspect foul play and believe the death may be due to health-related reasons, though an exact cause remains unknown. The cruise ship reportedly resumed its Aegean Sea itinerary after the woman was taken to the hospital.
This incident follows a recent pattern of deaths on cruise ships in the region. Last week, a 79-year-old British man was found unresponsive on the deck of a ship off the coast of Crete. Despite receiving first aid, he later died at a hospital. The ship had to dock on the Greek island due to the incident, and the Chania Port Authority initiated an investigation, including an autopsy.
Earlier in July, another British man, aged 67, died aboard a cruise ship in the port of Corfu. In May, passengers on Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess ship in Asia were informed of the death of their 52-year-old captain, Michele Bartolomei, who died from a medical emergency while the ship was docked in Keelung, Taiwan.
