British Woman Dies After Incident at Ibiza Beach
Lifeguards and bystanders attempted to save the woman, identified as a pensioner, before paramedics pronounced her dead.
A British woman has died after encountering difficulties in the water at S'Arenal Gros beach in Ibiza. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Portinatx, located on the island's northern coast.
Lifeguards, assisted by a British doctor, a firefighter, and an off-duty Spanish nurse who were present at the beach, made efforts to revive the woman. Local police and paramedics continued these attempts, but the woman was pronounced dead at approximately 5:30 p.m.
The deceased has been identified as a British pensioner. She had been staying at the Sandos El Greco Hotel, a four-star adults-only establishment situated less than a kilometer from the beach. An autopsy has been ordered by the Civil Guard to determine the exact cause of death, including whether drowning or a separate health issue was a contributing factor.
S'Arenal Gros beach is described as a popular spot for families, featuring fine white sand and clear, shallow waters.
The Foreign Office stated, "We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Spain."
This incident follows a similar event in Portugal weeks prior, where a 58-year-old British man was found dead at Pintadinho Beach in the Algarve. Lifeguards had spotted him floating in the water and initiated CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigations into that incident also included post-mortem examinations to ascertain the cause of death. Support services were mobilized to assist the man's family.
