A British tourist has died after being swept away by strong waves while swimming with his children on San Miguelito Beach in Cancun, Mexico. The 60-year-old man reportedly entered the water despite a red flag warning.

His two children were rescued, but the father was pulled from the sea unconscious. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon. The man's family has reportedly claimed that lifeguards were slow to respond. Tourist police sealed off the area following the death. Officials have not yet commented on the allegations regarding the lifeguard service.

The beach is located opposite the four-star NYX Cancun Hotel.

This incident follows other drownings involving British tourists in recent months. In March, a 39-year-old British tourist drowned after being caught in a rip current while swimming at Nyang-Nyang Beach in Bali. His body was discovered days later. Last September, 23-year-old Harrison Nada-Kontounas drowned after being swept out to sea by a rip current at Kuta Beach in Bali. Lifeguards attempted to reach him but were unsuccessful. His body was found approximately two days later.
