A British tourist has died months after sustaining severe injuries in a fall at an apartment complex in Lanzarote. Nicholas Thomas, 54, of Cwmbran, Wales, was holidaying at the Galeon Playa Apartments in Costa Teguise when a wooden banister reportedly collapsed, sending him and another man plummeting into a stairwell.

The incident occurred on October 25 last year. Thomas fell an estimated 15 to 22 feet. He was initially treated at Doctor Jose Molina Orosa Hospital before being flown back to the UK at the end of November. He was subsequently transferred between University Hospital of Wales, Grange University Hospital, and University Hospital in Llandough, where he passed away on July 10.

Another tourist, 56-year-old Darren Silcox, also from Cwmbran, was pronounced dead at the scene two hours after the fall. An inquest into Silcox's death indicated he died from traumatic brain injury, skull fractures, and skull lacerations resulting from the fall.

Spanish police are investigating the incident, examining whether inadequate maintenance or safety measures contributed to the collapse. The inquest for Thomas has been adjourned until April 14 of next year.

Thomas's family is planning to hold his funeral on August 14 at Gwent Crematorium.
