British Project Manager Killed in Mozambique Hotel Siege

A British project manager, Philip Mawer, 58, was killed by ISIS-linked terrorists during an attack on a hotel in Mozambique on March 24, 2021. Mawer had been working on a project to construct a new gas field in the region.
During the siege at the Quinto Asas hotel in Palma, Mawer reportedly ensured that women and children were able to escape before he himself attempted to flee. He was killed by a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) as he tried to leave the hotel.
The attack was carried out by terrorists linked to the Islamic State's Central Africa Province (ISCAP), also known as ISIS. The group launched assaults on Palma, a town in the Cabo Delgado province, leading to widespread displacement and violence.
