A British mother of two has been abducted in broad daylight in the Malawian city of Blantyre, police confirmed. Nusrat Osman, 47, was reportedly seized around 12:30 p.m. local time on Friday by four individuals traveling in a grey Nissan Dualis.
Malawian authorities have announced a reward exceeding £12,600 for credible information that could aid in Osman's safe rescue and lead to the apprehension of those responsible. The motive behind the abduction remains unknown, and the perpetrators have not yet contacted Osman's family or law enforcement.
Osman, who works for a local auditing firm, was taken from the street in the midst of the day. Her husband told local outlet Nyasa Times that he is unaware of her whereabouts or condition, stating, "My wife is an auditor and I have no issues with anyone."
Investigators are reportedly distributing text messages to the public in an effort to gather leads. The United Democratic Front (UDF) president, Atupele Muluzi, condemned the kidnapping, calling it a deeply disturbing incident and a growing concern for residents of Malawi, where such abductions are reportedly becoming more frequent.
The UK Foreign Office has been contacted for comment.
