British Man Dies After Being Pulled From Sea in Portugal
Lifeguards found the 58-year-old floating in the water at Pintadinho Beach, with paramedics unable to revive him.
A 58-year-old British national has died after being pulled from the sea near Pintadinho Beach in Portugal. Lifeguards spotted the man floating in the water on Wednesday morning and brought him ashore, commencing CPR efforts. Paramedics arrived shortly after and continued resuscitation attempts, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident occurred at Pintadinho Beach, described as a tranquil Blue Flag beach near the fishing village of Ferragudo. It remains unclear if the man was a tourist or a local resident, or if he was alone when he encountered difficulties. The alarm was raised around 9:20 a.m. on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for Portugal's National Maritime Authority confirmed the body of the English national was found and that the causes of the incident are unknown. Personnel from the Local Maritime Police Command of Portimao, the INEM National Medical Emergency Institute, the Lagoa Volunteer Firefighters, and the Judicial Police were activated. Following the unsuccessful resuscitation efforts, the man's death was certified, and his body was transported to the Barlavento Algarve Forensic Medicine Institute.
The Maritime Police Psychology Office has been activated to provide support to the victim's family. Authorities are not currently treating the death as a crime. A post-mortem examination is expected to determine whether the man died from drowning or another health-related issue.
In a separate incident on Saturday morning, a 64-year-old Irish holidaymaker died after getting into difficulty at Prainha Beach in Alvor, an area near Portimao.
