British Man Arrested After Taxi Driver Stabbed 16 Times in Spain

A British man has been arrested in Spain following a violent knife attack on a taxi driver. The incident occurred early Saturday morning at an industrial estate in Seville.

The taxi driver sustained at least 16 stab wounds to his hands, arms, neck, and shoulder blade. According to local reports, the suspect entered the taxi and initially asked to be taken to a shopping center before directing the driver to the industrial estate where the assault took place. The cabbie reportedly declined to proceed, becoming suspicious of the passenger's intentions, which led to the attack.

The assault was described as lasting several minutes, and the weapon used reportedly broke during the incident. The handle was recovered from the taxi, and the blade was found elsewhere after the attacker discarded it.

Emergency services responded after the injured driver managed to reach police headquarters. He received initial treatment from a local police officer before paramedics arrived. Shortly after, police located and arrested the suspect, who reportedly had blood traces on him and resisted arrest.

The National Police are leading the investigation into the incident. Seville Mayor Jose Luis Sanz condemned the attack and praised the local police for their assistance to the victim.

The British man remains in custody and is expected to face charges of attempted murder. He is due to appear before a judge who will determine whether to grant bail or order pre-trial detention by Monday.

The taxi driver's injuries are not considered life-threatening, though he remains in the hospital. It is unclear whether the suspect is a tourist or a resident in the Seville area.
