A 53-year-old British man died Thursday after falling from a multi-storey car park at Gran Canaria Airport, Spanish National Police said.
The incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. local time in the car park adjacent to the airport's domestic departures area. Police said the man fell from a height of approximately three storeys, about 10 metres (roughly 33 feet), and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. A National Police spokesman said the person was not a tourist and that no further information about his identity had been released.
Local media reported that the man fell "through a gap" inside the car park. Police said investigators were examining CCTV footage and exploring multiple possible explanations for the death, including an accidental fall, a structural fault, or a deliberate act. Authorities did not provide a timeline for the completion of forensic work or when additional details might be released.
Officers from the National Police on Gran Canaria and emergency services attended the scene. The airport remained operational, and officials did not report any disruption to flight schedules connected to the incident.
Spanish authorities have in recent months responded to a series of high-profile incidents at or near tourist sites on the island. In July, a 25-year-old British tourist died after falling from a supermarket car park in San Antonio. In May, a Gambian teenager, identified in Spanish court records as Abdoulie Bah, was shot and killed by armed police after reportedly threatening people with a knife at Gran Canaria Airport; court officials later said one of five bullets hit the teenager in the neck.
Police emphasized the investigation was ongoing and asked anyone with information or relevant footage to come forward. The Consulate of the United Kingdom in Spain was not immediately reported to be involved publicly, and officials did not comment on whether consular staff had been notified pending family identification and formal procedures.
Authorities said they would release further information as inquiries progress. The National Police statement reiterated that, beyond the man's age and nationality, no additional details were available at this time.
