A British father arrested after his two-year-old son died in a fall from a hotel window in Cyprus is expected to remain in custody until Tuesday, awaiting a decision from the attorney general on whether to press charges. The 37-year-old banking executive was detained a week ago after his toddler fell from the fourth floor of the King Evelthon Beach Hotel and Resort in Chlorakas, near Paphos.

The child was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The father was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death through negligence, reckless and dangerous actions.

A police report was delayed pending the results of toxicology tests, which are still pending. The attorney general, George Savvides, will review the investigation and decide whether to bring charges and set any bail conditions. A legal source indicated that if charged, the father would likely be released on strict remand conditions, such as surrendering his passport to prevent him from leaving Cyprus.

Friends of the family have described the deceased child as a "truly special, easy-going little boy who brought so much joy to everyone around him." They added that his "infectious smile, warm cuddles and kind heart are already so deeply missed."

A spokesman for the attorney general's office stated that the situation is "a sad and devastating story" and that the investigation is ongoing. A police spokesman confirmed that the father remains in custody as further inquiries are being conducted.
